Classic Bread Stuffing

Stuffing is a holiday staple at many dinner tables, whether it is stuffed into a bird or just eaten on the side. This is the classic way to cook stuffing that is filled with herbs and spices that immediately make you think of the holidays. You don’t have to wait until the holidays roll around to enjoy this stuffing; the ingredients are everyday items you can get at your supermarket anytime. Now that you can cook it in the slow cooker, you have no excuse not to enjoy a taste of the holidays all year round.

6 cups stale bread cubes
1/2 cup butter
1 medium onion, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage leaves
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh thyme
1/4 cup finely chopped parsley leaves
3 cups chicken broth
2 eggs, beaten
Coat the inside of your slow cooker pot with cooking spray, brush with oil, or line with a slow cooker liner.
Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, celery, and herbs. Season with salt and pepper and cook until vegetables are soft.
Add the bread to the slow cooker. Top with the cooked vegetables.
Whisk the rest of the ingredients in a mixing bowl. Pour over the bread and vegetables in the slow cooker. Stir to combine.
Cover and cook on high for 1 hour, then turn the heat down to low. Cook for 5 hours until cooked through.
Serve from the slow cooker set on warm.
